Terråk Gjestegård is located in Terråk in Bindal, a short distance from the fjord, the mountains, hiking trails and fishing spots. Here you can spend the day actively out in nature — or simply slow down, enjoy good food and take in the view of Bindalsfjorden.

Heilhornet (1058 m a.s.l.) is one of the best-known mountains in southern Helgeland. From the top you see the coast of Trøndelag, Helgeland and the entire Bindal peninsula. The hike starts at FV17 — the last metres are steep and demanding, but the view is spectacular.

Mulingen is a shorter hike near the centre of Terråk with a great view of Heilhornet, Bindalsfjorden and the open sea. A nice choice for families and anyone wanting a calm day in nature.
Season: All year.

Bindalsfjorden and the areas around Terråk offer good opportunities for sea fishing for cod, saithe, haddock and other species through much of the season. You can fish from shore, from the quay or head out on the fjord by boat. We have a freezer for your catch.
Season: Spring, summer and autumn.

Terråk has strong boatbuilding traditions, and a trip on the Nordlandsbåt Faragut is one of the most distinctive experiences in the area. A wonderful way to experience Helgeland from the sea — with local history, a traditional boat and closeness to the coastal culture of Bindal.
Season: The summer season / by arrangement.

Bindal is known for good river fishing opportunities. In season, salmon fishing and river fishing can be a wonderful experience. Rules, fishing licences and season vary — just ask us and we'll help with local information.
Season: Normally summer, depending on the river and fishing rules.

Terråk sits midway along Kystriksveien — one of Norway's most beautiful scenic routes. The 650 km route follows the Helgeland coast with ferries, fjords, mountains and fishing villages. We are a natural stop for both self-drivers and motorhome travellers. With us you can charge your EV, enjoy a good meal and stay the night before the next leg.
Season: All year. EV charging on site.

Bindal has a long and living history. The white Bindal church from 1733 stands above the village, and around the municipality you find boathouses by the sea, traditional Nordland boats and old farms. We offer a guided tour to a local boatbuilding workshop (5–25 people) — a rare chance to see how Nordland boats are still built today, just as a hundred years ago.
Boat workshop tour: book in advance. Price from 350 NOK per person.

You don't always need a big plan. Some come here to walk, fish and experience nature. Others come for the quiet. In Terråk you can read, take a calm walk, enjoy good food at our restaurant and let the days slow down. In winter Bindal is still and peaceful — on clear evenings you may see the northern lights.

The first big chapter of the story was written by Einar Strand. He opened the guesthouse in 1973 and was among those who saw early that Bindal could welcome travellers, anglers and tourists — not just as a dot on the map, but as a place to stop, eat well and feel welcome.
Many remember Einar as a man of strong will, hard work and faith in the place. In his time the guesthouse became more than just lodging. It became a meeting place — where locals dropped by, travellers found peace, and especially fishing tourists from Germany found a base by the fjord and kept coming back.
The story of Terråk Gjestegård therefore does not begin with us. It begins with people who built, ran and kept the place going long before we arrived.

Einar Strand did not build Terråk Gjestegård alone. Around him stood a whole family — siblings, relatives and friends who helped out, worked together and kept the place going for several decades.
In the photo (from left, seated): Gunda Lande, Lillian Lande, Ivar Helstad, Einar S. Strand, Ludvik Strand and Wilhelm Strand. Behind (from left): Johan Knoph, Dag Dypvik, Rolf Rønning.

Like many small village guesthouses, Terråk Gjestegård has changed over the years. New owners have come along, needs have shifted, and the place has taken on new forms.
Some periods have been busy. Others quieter. But the house has continued to be a part of Terråk — as a hotel, restaurant and stopping point for people on their way through Bindal and Helgeland.
When we arrived, we sensed that the place carried a lot of history. Not all of it was visible at once. Some of it lay in the walls, in old photos, in the memories of people in the village and in the stories guests told us.

In 2024 we, Olga and Nico Krause, took over Terråk Gjestegård. We are a German-Estonian family who moved to Norway in 2022, and we came to Bindal with curiosity, a willingness to work and a fairly large dose of courage.
When we first saw the guesthouse, it was not a perfect place. It was worn. It needed care, work and new ideas. But we saw what mattered most: the location by the fjord, the closeness to nature, the history in the house — and the chance to give the place new life.
Since we took over, we have worked step by step. We have renovated rooms, developed our restaurant, welcomed new guests, listened to old stories and tried to build on what was here without erasing what came before us.
For us, Terråk Gjestegård isn't about luxury. It's about genuine hospitality, warm food, clean rooms, nature right outside the door and the feeling that someone actually cares about your stay.

We see ourselves as a new part of a longer story. Einar Strand started the first chapter. Other owners carried the place forward. Now it's our turn.
Our goal is simple: to make Terråk Gjestegård a living, warm and honest place in Bindal — for travellers, anglers, working people, small groups and local guests.
A place where you can come in out of the rain, get a good meal, sleep well, see the fjord outside the window and feel you've arrived somewhere with soul.
